CCL is under new ownership. Sort of. **FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THIRD STREET SAINTS ACQUIRE 50% OWNERSHIP STAKE IN CAW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE; CARMEN CORTEZ TO SERVE AS CO-OWNER ON BEHALF OF SAINTS**
(Miami, FL) The CAW Champions League is proud to announce that the Third Street Saints have acquired a 50% ownership stake in the CAW Champions League, effective August 1, 2019. Carmen Cortez, the President of the Third Street Saints, will serve as a co-chairwoman of the CAW Champions League on behalf of the Saints, effective immediately.
Cortez joins Meredith Clark as co-owners of the CAW Champions League, a virtual wrestling league founded in December 2009 by Sushi-X. Cortez is the inaugural Queens of Wrestling Champion, having won the title in October 2017. The same month, Cortez won the Destiny Championship Alliance (DCA) Wildcats Championship, making her a double champion less than a year after her in-ring debut. She has also made appearances for the CAW Champions League and CAW Elite Wrestling (CEW), where she competed in the first ever CEW Women’s Championship match against Codie Hale. More recently, Cortez founded the all-female promotion Scarlet Row Wrestling (SRW) and presented two mega-events in its brief history: Enter the Dominatrix and Money Shot. Later this month, SRW will present its third mega-event, The Full Package.
Cortez on the acquisition: “With my mind and Meredith’s vision, the whole virtual wrestling world will find out soon enough that the CAW Champions League deserves only one place in the pecking order: the motherfucking top!”
With the acquisition, SRW joins DCA as official working partners with the CAW Champions League, with the three promotions exchanging talent as needed. CCL is also working partners with over two dozen CAW promotions under the Virtual Wrestling United, CAW All Stars, and the Video Game Wrestling Network banners. In September 2019, CCL and SRW owners Meredith Clark and Carmen Cortez will co-present their first event together under the new agreement, Safeword, from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
CCL co-owner Meredith Clark: “I am confident that Carmen along with the Third Street Saints can bring a new energy into the CAW Champions League as we head towards our tenth anniversary. With CCL set to return with Undisputed, this will definitely mark the beginning of a new era. Not much will change, but what does change will do so for the better.”
ADDENDUM: Since the original intended date of this release (August 15), Carmen suffered multiple injuries in the Hell in a Cell match at DCA Redemption. Though she is expected to appear at CAW All Stars 11 on the weekend of August 24 and 25, at SRW’s The Full Package on August 29, and CCL’s Undisputed on August 31, there is no set timetable for her return. A member of the Saints will step in as acting co-chairman in the interim until Carmen is at full capacity to fulfill her duties.
