President Donald Trump wrote Friday that the Justice Department's decision not to charge FBI Director James Comey shows how 'fair and reasonable' Attorney General William Barr is.Thursday's report by DOJ's inspector general on Comey's keeping and disseminating memos about his bizarre interactions with Trump in 2017 noted that the IG referred the matter to Justice, but that it ''declined prosecution.'Comey cast the report as an exoneration and asked for an apology for those who accused him of 'lying and leaking' – namely Trump. Trump on Friday took the decision not as a statement on Comey's culpability, but on the even-handedness of his AG, who critics have accused of using his powers to shape the narrative of the Mueller report and its conclusions. Democrats have accused him of operating as if he were Trump's personal lawyer. 'The fact that James Comey was not prosecuted for the absolutely horrible things he did just shows how fair and reasonable Attorney General Bill Barr is. So many people and experts that I have watched and read would have taken an entirely different course. Comey got Lucky!' Trump wrote.The IG in its report found Comey 'failed to live up to this responsibility' to protect internal information as other FBI agents are expected to. The IG also found Comey failed to follow agency rules and failed to turn over his memos after Trump fired him. 'What was not permitted was the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive investigative information, obtained during the course of FBI employment, in order to achieve a personally desired outcome' of getting a special counsel appointed – Comey's stated goal, according to the report.With no prosecution, the IG said it provided the report to the FBI and DOJ's Office of Professional Responsibility for 'action they deem appropriate.'Trump also blasted Comey – who wrote in his memos that Trump asked him for 'loyalty' early in the administration, asked him to let go an investigation of his national security advisor, and queried him about the golden showers dossier – as a 'dishonest fool.' 'The disastrous IG Report on James Comey shows, in the strongest of terms, how unfairly I, and tens of millions of great people who support me, were treated. Our rights and liberties were illegally stripped away by this dishonest fool. We should be given our stolen time back?' Trump wrote.It was one of three tweets Friday where Trump ended his missives with question marks instead of his trademark exclamation marks for unexplained reasons. The president also quoted Bryan Dean Wright, who identifies himself as a Democrat and former CIA officer, who provides commentary on Fox News, and who has written that 'I can't stand my party right now
