FAA Knowledge Test for Recreational Flyers
The FAA released a request for information (RFI) regarding the FAA knowledge test for recreational flyers. As you know if you’ve followed this channel for a while, one of the requirements from the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 is that the FAA must test recreational pilots with an aeronautical knowledge test. The FAA is currently looking for partners to administer the test and is asking feedback from industry professionals. As predicted, the basic idea is that the test would be administered online, likely for a fee.

Sheriff department gets approval to fly over people
The Burleigh County Sheriff’s department received approval to fly over people routinely.
They are the first law enforcement agency in North Dakota and the second in the nation to get such approval.
They used the Mavic 2 series equipped with the ParaZero parachute system that we discussed a few weeks ago in this segment.

DroneUp awarded a 50-state UAS Services Contract
DroneUp provides aerial data collection using contract pilots. They were awarded a contract for UAS services by the Commonwealth of Virginia to “provide services to all state agencies, institutions of higher education, and other public bodies” This includes Emergency services, law enforcement, aerial inspection, mapping, agricultural, and marketing. If you are a remote pilot, you can sign up to DroneUp using their app or on their website. They will match you with missions in your area.

#IFYOUFLYWECAN’T
A reminder to not fly during forest fires or any kind of emergency where air support can be provided.
Manned aircraft will be grounded if drones are spotted in the area.
