A Right to Know- Alcohol Labelling Across Europe

A Right to Know- Alcohol Labelling Across Europe Europe is the heaviest drinking region in the world and, as a result, has the highest burden of ill health and premature death directly linked to alcohol.

EU mandatory regulation demands that foods and beverages display ingredients and nutrition information on their packaging. Unfortunately, alcoholic beverages are not subject to this legislation, which means consumers are unable to make informed, health-conscious decisions.

United European Gastroenterology (UEG), Eurocare, the European Society for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) call attention to the need for detailed, government monitored alcohol labelling to become a Europe-wide regulation. Consumers have a right to know information on the risk of alcohol consumption and its association with a range of digestive diseases.
