Check out this super sneaky play by the Kings. They set a double screen for Bogdanovic. And the Celtics immediately switch, to meet Bogie midway through as you can see right here. So he actually screens for Hield and all of a sudden Buddy can now be wide open.
So as you can see, at this moment it turns into a 2 way win in tic tac toe. Hield has a clean look, Bogie can cut inside and as we play it, he is the one that actually gets the ball and ends up with an easy layup.
Here’s the full play once again so that you really appreciate this quick and effective action by Sacramento.
Did you like that? I’ve got 5 more sneaky plays that all happened last night. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
Here’s a savy move by Danny Green. Similar situation. A double screen, and a switch.
And instead of going past the screen like the defense expects, look at Green suddenly cutting towards the basket, and Lebron is going to deliver a bullet pass right here for the layup. Goaltending, so it counts of course.
This is a great counter move for a shooter, to switch things up and always keep the defense guessing.
This next play, I’ve mentioned in other videos. The hammer screen.
We have the pick and roll on the right side, and the drive through the middle engages the help defenders right here. At the same time, notice the off ball screen for Joe Harris, by a guy named Theo Pinson who I had to google to be honest. Shoutout to him, for setting the screen and freeing up one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. The reigning 3 point contest champion is of course going to knock down an open shot like this.
Moving on. Van Vleet pulled a fast one on Josh Richardson. He starts by running right here to get a handoff, but then quickly cuts behind. Simmons makes it easier by not switching right here. If he did, I feel like we would have seen Siakam power through the smaller Richardson.
This way however, we see the easiest 2 points of the night for Fred Van Vleet.
Ben Simmons did get his revenge in a similar way tho. Quick and simple screen at the elbow for his defender allows Ben to go full speed against maybe a six footer in Van Vleet. So he catapults in the air for the alley oop and there is no way for this to be stopped if you’re not expecting that screen.
And for our final play check out the sneakiness right here. Traveon Graham completely sells this trick by visibly signalling to Wiggins to take his screen and go on the left wing. And in the blink of an eye, he cuts to the basket, and a great pass by Towns to find him down low for this finish.
