In an ambitious feat that’s set to take place over five years, renowned Canadian DJ JaBig will be taking to tarmac and trails on his bicycle to raise funds in support of a charity that he holds close to his heart, World Bicycle Relief. Having cycled across Canada in the dead of an icy Winter, JaBig now challenges himself to traverse the globe on two wheels, BEATS BY BIKES tour. In 2015, JaBig (born Jean-Aimé Bigirimana in Rwanda) bought a fixed-gear bike, thinking it would be nothing more than a healthy diversion to keep him occupied during the days, as his work as a club DJ took place mostly at night and after a few short months, JaBig was surprised to note that he’d cycled over 5000km’s. In 2016 JaBig set out for a mid-Winter cycle across Canada, which span over 18000km of icy wilderness and took 15 months to complete.
As JaBig plans to embark on his BEATS BY BIKES world journey on the 25th August, his 40th birthday, he will be cycling more than 100.000 km or 62.000 miles. He will be the first person in history to combine his profession (DJ) with his passion (bicycle touring) and a mission (supporting World Bicycle Relief) to create a project never carried out before.
JaBig wishes to give his mission leverage by using media and social media follower attention to raise awareness of world hunger - a cause that JaBig has long held dear - and to raise funds for the World Bicycle Relief organization, which helps under-privileged children to get an education by providing them with the means - a bicycle - to get to school.
World Bicycle Relief (WBR) builds and distributes specially-designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles. With the experience and expertise gained over the last 10 years designing and delivering more than 400,000 Buffalo Bicycles, WBR has developed an efficient, innovative and scalable model to successfully address the great need for reliable, affordable transportation in rural areas of developing countries.
On his way, he will share his music in clubs and donate his fee, he will visit local Charity-projects and fans will be able to ride along with him. Followers across the world can participate via social media, a website where JaBig can be tracked is coming.
