Stockings in the 1940s: Rayon, Wool, Silk & Nylon When it comes to WWII and fashion, the one item on everyone's mind is nylon stockings. In reality nylons were only made in the US for a few months so it's highly unlikely that GI's were gifting nylon stockings to British women: it's more likely that they were rayon.
