Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying called upon North Korea and the US to remain committed to dialogue and "meet half way" to break the deadlock of dialogue as soon as possible. She was talking at a press conference in Beijing on Monday, following a reportedly 'very important' test conducted by its bordering country.

"Achieving denuclearisation and peace on the Korean Peninsula requires both the DPRK and the US to make concrete joint efforts. Under the current circumstances, we hope that the DPRK and the US could cherish the rare opportunity for a political settlement of the Korean peninsula issue, and cherish the constructive results already achieved," Hua Chunying stated.

"Both sides should remain firmly committed to dialogue and consultation, remain patient and meet each other halfway, strive to break the deadlock of dialogue as soon as possible and push for new progress in the process of a political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

"We believe that in the process of resolving the Korean Peninsula issue, the legitimate and reasonable concerns of the DPRK in terms of security and development should be paid attention to and solved," she added.

The press conference comes a day after the announcement by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) of a "very important test" conducted at the satellite-launching ground in Sohae, providing no further details about what exactly was tested.
