Do supplements work? Are some efficacious and others not? What is required for them to 'work'?

Do supplements work? Are some efficacious and others not? What is required for them to 'work'? Supplements are NOT regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). For this reason, new companies are sprouting up each year with newer and better products “promising” more energy, more muscle, and weight loss. Supplement companies market their products by targeting to arouse our emotions like a “herd mentality” seeking to entice us to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else in order to win the conclusion that their supplements may give us more energy, may give us more muscle, and may make us leaner!

Many retired bodybuilders like Gaspari, Labrada, and Yates have discovered this lucrative business years ago because it appeals to the admiration and vanity of having a muscular and ripped physique. The argument is to look like someone you admire you must buy the supplements he or she takes, eat what he or she eats, and train the way he or she trains. Supplement companies, bodybuilders, and popular fitness figures can manipulate the attitudes and emotions of the public to incline them to accept popular claims of supplements that have not been established.

Supplement companies make the claim that certain ergogenic and thermogenic aids are “clinically proven” to build muscle and burn fat. It is no wonder that the supplement industry is a multi-billion dollar business! I am not saying supplements do not work. It is best to suspend judgment and say, do some "muscle building" and "fat burning" supplements aid in the end result and others not? If so, how? And if so, when? Or if not, why not? What factors must be present by the exerciser that influences or contributes the efficacy of the supplement? What must the exerciser do to supplement his or her program with a supplement that may work to enhance his or her work for the end goal?

I want to say two things. First, I have built muscle without the use of supplements (and caffeine) in the mid to late 90s before I got introduced to them because I created the proper environment to do it. And two, I have also lost weight without the use of supplements (and caffeine) in the beginning of 2019 because I was able to create the proper environment to do so. To create the proper environment to either build muscle or lose fat or do both, you need to put together a training and meal regimen plan and follow it! This puts your mind in the driver’s seat to do what is good for your body, which enables you to reach your end goal.

Follow the right training routine, train with proper form, exercise with the right amount of intensity, eat the right foods often, have the right attitude, and repeat this to make it a habit of excellence! Creating the proper environment to get fit begins naturally with a great mind like your own. You cannot win the war against the world, of what is popular to believe, if you cannot win the war against your own mind. I suggest you augment your mind with the right knowledge and work ethic in the pursuit of excellence: work hard, be consistent, work harder, don’t give up, and repeat!

THE BOTTOM LINE

To say that supplements work or to say that supplements do not work is an oxymoron. You've got to put in your WORK first. You've got to put in the EFFORT. It's starts with YOU, not a supplement. If you are trying to lose fat, then start eating better and start exercising. If you are trying to gain muscle, then start eating foods that help to gain weight and go on a muscle building routine, not a strength routine. If you want to cleanse your body, drink more water, eat better, and eat less junk food. It starts with YOU. It is NOT rocket science. When you create the proper environment for YOU, then the supplement(s) you take may enhance the work you already do. If YOU cannot or unwilling to create the proper environment FIRST, then taking supplements, most likely, may not work, and you will waste your money. So, make sure you are doing your work already first.
