Mark Staple of the UAC looks at facets near the ground on northerly aspects in Big Cottonwood Canyon at about 9500 feet above Lake Desolation. These facets are dormant at the moment but will reawaken and produce avalanches if another storm brings a lot of snow and a lot of water weight.
