Have Verona Murphy's immigration comments struck a chord? Wexford By-Election (26Nov19)

Have Verona Murphy's immigration comments struck a chord? Wexford By-Election (26Nov19) Discussion on Verona Murphy's comments on immigration and asylum seekers in a Wexford by-election debate on "The Tonight Show". Fine Gael's "Local and Vocal" candidate didn't attend the debate, and hasn't given any interviews in the last few days under orders from Fine Gael HQ.

The former head of the Irish Road Haulage Association came under fire for saying that some asylum seekers coming into Ireland have to be "deprogrammed" as they "carry angst" and may have been "infiltrated by ISIS". She said she was "under no illusion that Isis is a big part of the migrant population" and that ISIS has already manipulated children as young as three or four.

She has since apologised for her comments after visiting an asylum seeker reception centre.

Murphy has also made comments in the past that have riled her Fine Gael colleagues. She said that Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy had "a let them eat cake" attitude to the housing crisis. She also said that the government's drink driving laws are "decimating rural Ireland".
