How to Register for the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse | Trucking Answers

How to Register for the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse | Trucking Answers How to register for the FMCSA drug and alcohol clearinghouse database.. The database goes live on January 6, 2020 but is open for registration now. All CDL holders need to register in the database because companies are required to check you record in the database at least once a year. Also, everytime you apply for a job, a prospective employer must look at you in the FMCSA drug and alcohol database as well. This clearinghouse will end up being another governmental boondoggle and huge waste of money but no one cares about that. They say that if even one person is taken off the road, it is worth it. I say hogwash to that. The money for this would be better spent elsewhere. Even so, you can see your record any time you want for free but companies will be charged $1.25 each time they look into it. I do not know if these costs will be passed on to drivers. If you do not register your employer will not be able to check you in the records. They must do this yearly so they have no choice in that.

"Drivers are not required to register for the Clearinghouse. However, a driver will need to be registered to provide electronic consent in the Clearinghouse if a prospective or current employer needs to conduct a full query of the driver’s Clearinghouse record—this will include all pre-employment queries beginning on January 6, 2020." --FMCSA
