English is the second most spoken language in the world after the Chinese language. It is spoken by 372 million native and about a billion non-native speakers. Approximately 64% of native English speakers are in the United States, 16.6% in the United Kingdom, 5.3% in Canada, 4.7% in Australia, 1.3% in South Africa, 1.3% in Ireland, 1.3% in New Zealand, and the remaining 5.5% are spread across the world. After the Decolonisation of Africa, a good number of countries in Africa, came to adopt official languages that were mostly of external origin. There are, however, several African countries that also legally recognize indigenous languages as well. There are about 6.5 million native English speakers and 700 million non-native English speakers in Africa. There are about 25 African countries where English is spoken an official language. Most of these countries where English is spoken are former British colonies except for Rwanda and Eritrea that were colonized by Belgium and Italy respectively.

10. Rwanda
officially the Republic of Rwanda, Rwanda is a Landlock country in Central- Eastern Africa and one of the smallest countries on the African mainland. Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With a population of about 11.5 million people and surface area of about 26.338km2, Rwanda is one of the most beautiful and developed countries in Africa. English, Kinyarwanda, French and Swahili are official languages in this nation. While English is the language mainly used in the educational sector, Kinyarwanda is the main national language of Rwanda. 9. Ghana
Ghana is a country located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the subregion of West Africa. Spanning a land mass of 238,535 km2 , Ghana is bordered by the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south. Ghana means "Warrior King" in the Soninke language. There are eleven widely spoken languages in Ghana, but English remains the language of the State and its commonly used Lingua Franca. French language is also trained in several schools in the country because predominantly French-speaking nations surround this nation. Ghana is on the list even despite the widespread criticism over their ‘thick’ accents. Here, English words are often mixed with a heavy tone of pidgin, which perhaps, confuses many foreigners. However, Africa was colonized, and it is difficult to prevent the influence of the native languages on the English language.

Officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. Malawi has a population of about 18.2 million people Malawi got its Independence from Britain in 1964. The official Language of the Country is English and Chichewa. The seventh best English speaking country in Africa is Zimbabwe, a landlocked nation located between the rivers Zambezi and Limpopo in Southern Africa, it has a population of about 14.5 Million people and a surface area of about 390.763 km2. In the education system and judiciary system, the commonly spoken language is the English language. Shona and Sindebele, both Bantu languages are also commonly spoken as indigenous languages in the nation. 70% of the population speaks Shona while a relatively smaller 20% speak Sindebele.
