UN says India's new citizenship law is 'fundamentally discriminatory in nature' The United Nations has slammed India's new citizenship law for being "fundamentally discriminatory in nature". It said the new law violates India's human rights commitments and has called for it to be reviewed. The new citizenship law would fast-track citizenship to minority religious groups who entered India from three neighbouring countries before 2015. However, it would not apply to Muslims. Protesters say the law will convert thousands of illegal immigrants into legal residents.
