Are You Allergic To Bananas? | Humain Health

Are You Allergic To Bananas? | Humain Health Banana allergies, if not treated, can cause severe health issues. If you are allergic to bananas, you may also react to avocado, kiwi or chestnut. People with a banana allergy sometimes also experience oral reactions to fruits such as peach, olive and tomato, and raw vegetables such as bell pepper and carrot. As plantain is from the same botanical family, it is possible those with a banana allergy may react to plantain.

Be careful of fruit salads and fruit drinks and anywhere else where banana might be an unexpected ingredient. If you are prescribed a medicine by your doctor, check that banana flavouring has not been added. Always read the ingredient lists. It is important to know if your allergy is in this category. In this video, Dr. Laxmi, Humain Health's Consultant Pathologist, talks about the various tests to diagnose banana allergies.

People should not assume that their banana allergies are harmless or will go away with time. Even a minor banana allergy can develop to be more severe or cause a serious reaction. The only way to avoid reactions, is to stop consuming or avoiding contact with bananas and products containing latex. If you suspect you are experiencing intolerance to banana you should first consult your GP to rule out a more serious cause for your symptoms.
