This hard drive was not showing any data when it was plugged in. We suspect that the unit started to have minor signs of firmware problems that are ever so common among WD hard drives. Just like with any Western Digital hard drive, our lab takes several preparation actions to ensure safe and trouble-free imaging. First, we always use compatible SATA boards for all native USB interface drives. Second, firmware gets prepped for imaging with PC-3000. Since the boot sector was gone, we had to image this drive fully, and then run full partition analysis to rebuild a file structure back to original. After these steps, hard drive's was fully restored.
