Llew O’Brien’s resignation from the Nationals Party room will be a further kick to Michael McCormack, who is still reeling from last week’s leadership spill, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. The Wide Bay MP confirmed to Sky News on Monday he would no longer be a member of the Nationals party room, but would remain as a member of the government.
Mr Clennell said Mr O’Brien phoned the prime minister on Sunday night to inform him of the decision.
“From the government’s point of view, they hope it turns into a bit of a Kevin Hogan situation where Hogan went away from government, but he didn’t really cross the floor. I guess they’re hoping they will keep it to that,” he said.
