We discuss the passing of Reed Mullin and bask in the greatness of COC. One of the many things that make them great is the incredible network of bands related to them: Crowbar, Superjoint Ritual, Down, Eyehategod, and Pantera.
To me, the name Corrosion of Conformity is political poetry. Corrosion of Conformity is an erosion of having to conform so that we can express what we actually believe. In modern life, we cannot escape the responsibilities we have or the debt we have made with the world. These burdens make us conform in one way or another to deal with them. COC means being free. You don't have to conform to any model.
For me, COC says to be yourself. Don't conform to things blindly. Maybe that's why they named their 1991 album Blind. Trust in your voice. Don't conform.
In a world where branding, influence, and clout is worth more than money we conform to certain models. What if you didn't have to? What if you could be who you actually are and be happy? This world doesn't let us do that without a fight to the death.
I want to make a quick note. There a misspoken phrase in the episode. No Cross No Crown was released in 2018. I slurred 2018 and it sounded like 2008. The facts will also reveal the truth.
