High level technical expertise to make the collaboration between Member States work in the field. Interview with Hubert Gijzen, Director, UNESCO Multisectorial Regional office (Southern Africa), Harare, Zimbabwe

It is extremely important to recognize the socio-economic groupings of countries and facilitate that these countries work together on bigger issues and challenges that they all face. Take for instance the enormous impact of climate change and the enormous droughts that we have seen in the region which call for better water management, education and awareness raising on how to deal with water. I think UNESCO’s strategic advantages is that it facilitates collaboration and brings high level technical expertise to make that collaboration between Member States work to address the big problems of our time and of the region.
