Certain publisher sin the games industry have long professed a desire for single live services to prevail over single-player narrative-driven competitors... but the problem is... many of these live services are built in a similar timespan and abandoned just as quickly. The idea that live services are anything but a reskinned renamed standard product is typically untrue, and the resulting cycle is that gamers are often expecting a game with a hefty lifespan, but receive a nearly annualized version of something that has a sequel already in development which will eclipse the product they own.
Many live service games have a long-standing and predetermined expiration date, which runs contrary to what consumers are led to believe.
