First things first Gatwetch is a 17 year old, 6ft4 170lbs combo guard now of the 2020 class. Formely of the 2019 recruiting class who reclassified after his junior year. He attends Huntington prep school, a relatvively new prepatory programe founded less than a decade ago in 2009.
While The past few years Jimma had generated some buzz locally, it wasn't until the mudiay big time event in vegas late july, when he pulled of this incredible in game dunk with ballislife camera's in the building. That Jimma began doing big numbers online. Raking up almost 200,000 IG followers the majority of which came after the madness in vegas. And that's because the under both legs dunk in the past was only ever seen on NBA jam or live, not even realistic enough to be a dunk package in 2k until recent years. I remember back in 2009 pro dunkers kenny dobbs became internet sensations for doing the dunk. In 2016 we saw Aaron Gordon do at all star weekend in his battle for the ages with Zach Lavine, now in 2019 we have a high scholler pulling off an the under both legs dunks in game. Which is absolutely unprecedented.

While Jimma is a social media star in the making, someone who we can expect to see all over ballislife's and overtime's feeds this season. He's still very much an unknown recruit, who despite reclassifying from 2019 isn't yet a ranked prospect in the 2020 recruiting class.
So far Jimma has only recieved scholarship offers from Western Kentucky, Oregon and LSU. With U-Martin, Tennesse Tech, Kentucky and Kansas showing interest and closely monitoring. If an offer from either of those 2 blue blood schools were too come on the table. I can't imagine Jimma turning them down, having said in past interviews that Kansas and Kentucky are his dream schools.
And when you look at his numbers, that isn't all that surprising. During the 18/19 season on huntington's prep circuit, Jimma barely saw any playing time featuring in under 10 minutes a game. And averaged 3.1 points, 2 rebounds 0.3 assists, 0.3 blocks and a steal per game, while shooting 38% from the field and 20% from the perimeter. I don't want anyone to be mislead and think these were his numbers last season, but this is all i can find online and is strictly based on a 6 game sample size.
As for his game, Gatwetch is is a rail thin 170lbs, hyper athletic combo guard who possess a prodigous vertical with ability to turn heads with plays select few are capable of, his flourishing above the rim game is as a promising as it is eye opening.
. But beyond the viral dunks, there are still holes in his game that need addressed. Jimma knows hismelf packing muscle onto his bone-thin frame is not just a priority but a requirement and a necessity for survival at the next level.
Gatwech is a shifting player whose game is predicated on slashing and finishing through traffic. So he'll need to get bigger in order to absorb the brutal hits from 7-footers who will inevitably be waiting for him at the rim.
On top of that, he's put a lot of emphasis on improving other aspects of his game himself, such as tightening up his handle and developing a consistent mid-range and perimeter shot.
So basically just all-around skills required of a guard in today's game, but jimma shares a lot in common with, not only as a player but their story also. Is Ja Morant of the Memphis grizzlies, who at 6'3 175 is a similar height and weight to Jimma. With a whole out of bounce in those springy short legs, Jimma like Ja not only has the crowd going crazy pre-game with dunks. But is a similar situation right now to where Ja was at the same stage of his high school career? Morant was also an unranked recruit going into his senior year, with minimal to know major interest from D1 programs. In large part due to a lack off opportunity, to show what he was really all about. It wasn't till his sophomore year at Murray State when Ja was able to put his full skill set on display. That he not only made NBA radar but skyrocketed to lottery pick status. And was eventually picked second to only Zion Williamson in this years NBA draft.
