#Ludhiana #Teachers #BoycottedTheExam In all, 89 science and maths teachers serving in meritorious schools across the state today protested against the conduct of an exam in which they were to appear today.
Apart from a few teachers, all others boycotted the exam. The one-and-a-half hour test was scheduled at 11 am at Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students. The test was being conducted by the Society for Promotion of Quality Education.
Teachers, who are working on contract, are of the opinion that they are serving at the schools for the past many years but instead of regularising their jobs, they are being harassed by being asked to appear for exams.
“Our appointment was made in different years from 2014 to 2018 through a proper procedure. We appeared for the interview and a demo class was also taken. We are teaching students for many years but still we are being asked to appear for the exam for reasons not known to us,” said Jalandhar-based Sukhwinder Singh, member of the Meritorious Staff Union, Punjab.
Kulwinder Bath from Bathinda said that their contract was renewed every year and the contracts of most of the teachers were due to be renewed in October and they fear this test could be the basis for that.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
