Television's Vintage Black & White TV era: Ozzie and Harriet (RIcky Nelson sings)

Our final video clip for this vintage television retrospective is from the series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, with son Ricky Nelson singing. One of our favorites here at Television Vanguard, Ricky Nelson was a sensation during that mid-late 1950s to early 1960s era, and is very emblematic of what television and music were all about during this time. A very important time in American pop culture history when what we (as Americans) viewed on our television sets during that time was very American.

The Beatles and the British Invasion would arrive in America in early 1964, and a more globalized entertainment industry would begin, bringing with it a lot of good, but also, a more developed and mass-media landscape that we enjoy (or sometimes perhaps not) today. But in many ways, Rick Nelson was the last vestige of the 1950's television-music synthesis of pop culture phenomenon in America. The perfect way for us to end our 2019 summertime retro-tribute to the era of black and white television.

Never Be Anyone Else But You was recorded in 1959, and was featured on the television series soon after at the height of Ricky Nelson's career. A great song from great talent.

And so completes our tribute to the black and white era of television in the 1950s and early 1960s. Our summer team will be back next summer with the second half of our black & white tribute as we will then be paying tribute to the dramas of this bygone era of television. As we head out the door, just a word on what is coming this fall. A bit of a change here at Television Vanguard... our fall team will be arriving a bit late this September, as we'll kick off our annual 50th anniversary television season tribute in late September rather than early September. This will allow us time to present to you two (we feel) important milestones for television history... the 50th Anniversary of The Brady Bunch, and the 25th Anniversary of Friends.

So, our interim staff, 'M', will be flying solo at the controls the next couple of weeks, and he'll be taking you along for the ride as we pay tribute to The Brady Bunch and their special brand new HGTV series that is coming next week (Sept 9th !!) on cable television's HGTV channel, and then the wonderful series Friends.
