The MOST IMPORTANT BJJ Concept - Alignment

The MOST IMPORTANT BJJ Concept - Alignment Alignment is the number 1 concept I can teach you in regardless in BJJ, or really anything combat related. Alignment refers to our body's ability to generate and absorb force maximally. Without proper alignment we cannot achieve our goal; whatever physical task that may be. In order to be successful at grappling you must keep yourself in proper alignment, and only then can you attempt to break your opponent's alignment.

The old saying "Position before Submission" is an important concept, but it isn't enough. We could have a dominant position in grappling and still struggle if we are unable to create vulnerability in our opponent, or even worse, fail to keep proper alignment ourselves (Looking at you white belts!). Think about your posture, structure, and base at all times, and if you are lacking in a specific area find a way to back up and regain it.
