TIP OF THE DAY: Here are the different stages of how I teach the back scratch spin. My skaters have to perform a minimum of 3 revolutions in Stage 1 in order to move on to the next and so on and so forth. This is an easy way to check if you are ready for the Traditional Back Scratch or not. Stage 1: Perform a Back One-Foot Spin from a standstill.
Stage 2: Enter the Back One-Foot Spin from a forward inside edge.
Stage 3: Enter a Back Scratch Spin from a forward inside edge. Your goal is to snap your ankles together right away.
Stage 4: Enter a Traditional Back Scratch Spin from a forward inside edge. Keep the free leg lifted for several revolutions in order to find balance with your arms out. Then slowly place the free foot right on top of your knee while your hands come close to your chest. Lastly, slide your boot down your spinning leg and squeeze your arms in as tight as you can. 🌀⛸💪🏼
