WATCH: Ambassador nominee says seeking investigation into Hunter Biden was U.S. policy John Sullivan, the current deputy secretary of state, said seeking an investigation to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and 2020 candidate Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, was a part of U.S. policy earlier this year. They “were certainly mentioned by the president and therefore part of U.S. policy,” Sullivan told senators during his confirmation hearing to become the next U.S. ambassador to Russia. “What the president has denied was that there was any quid pro quo,” Sullivan added in response to questions from Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn.
