Ex Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Sengar found guilty of raping a minor. His accomplice Shashi Singh was given the benefit of doubt by Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma and acquitted. The argument on the quantum of punishment will take place on December 19. The offences entail a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
Sengar (53) has now been convicted under the charges of rape and Section 5 (c) and 6 (for public servant committing penetrative sexual assault against a child) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"I found her statement truthful and unblemished that she was sexually assaulted. She was under threat, worried. She is a village girl, not from cosmopolitan educated area... Sengar was a powerful person. So she took her time..," said the judge said while delivering the verdict.
As the judge began reading out the judgement, co-accused Singh fainted. Delhi's Tis Hajari court also expressed displeasure with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the delay in filing the charge sheet.
