Funeral for 2 Vietnamese in UK truck deaths

Funeral for 2 Vietnamese in UK truck deaths (28 Nov 2019) Family and friends of two Vietnamese men who died when human traffickers carried them into the UK gathered for a funeral mass before their burial.

The bodies of Hoang Van Tiep, 18, and his cousin Nguyen Van Hung, 33, were repatriated to Vietnam last week.

Their caskets were brought to a Catholic church in Nghe An province in a procession before the mass.

The men were among 39 people, all Vietnamese nationals, who were found dead in the vehicle in Essex in October.

Only 16 bodies have been repatriated from the UK so far.

Thursday's service comes after Northern Irish lorry driver Maurice Robinson pleaded guilty in a London court to plotting to assist illegal immigration.

Police say the 25-year-old drove the cab of the truck to the English port of Purfleet, where it picked up the container, which had arrived by ferry from the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium.

Several other suspects have also been arrested in the UK and Vietnam.
