The Love Actually actor had urged voters to vote tactically in the election to avoid a Tory majority He campaigned alongside Liberal Democrat, Labour and independent candidates in marginal seats. Mr Ferrari asked LBC Political Editor Theo Usherwood if it was true that every candidate Hugh Grant campaigned with lost their election battle. When it was confirmed, the host burst into laughter. He said: “That is absolutely sensational. “That’s like Christmas come early.” Mr Grant campaigned with former Tory, now independent Dominic Grieve, Lib Dem candidate Chuka Umunna and Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen. However, Thursday night delivered a crushing election defeat as the Conservatives increased their majority to 80 seats. Mr Grieve lost his seat in Buckinghamshire to the new Tory candidate. Mr Umunna lost his battle for the City of London seat to Conservative Nickie Aiken by 3953 votes. Ms Shaheen had hotly contested senior figure Iain Duncan Smith for his Chingford & Woodford Green. However, Mr Smith managed to hold on by 1262 votes. Election night also saw a wave of disappoint for rebels and Remainers, including Anna Soubry, Dennis Skinner and even Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson. Trending Ms Swinson lost her Scottish seat to the SNP's Amy Callaghan. This resulted in the Lib Dems dropping from 12 to 11 seats. Sir Ed Davey and Baroness Sal Brinton are taking over as acting co-leaders. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has also announced that he will not lead the party into the nest general election. The Labour leadership contest is expected to kick off in January.
