Strikers in Paris block Louvre prompting mixed reactions from tourists, residents

The latest round of strikes saw part of staff at the Louvre museum hold a demonstration at the entrance, blocking entry, in the 44th day of rolling strikes against the planned pension system reform.

Other strikers, civil servants from the culture sector, joined them and blocked tourists from entering the building. This resulted in many people queuing outside the building in hopes of getting in.

For about two hours it looked uncertain if the museum would open at all, causing several irritated tourists to "boo" the strikers, while others expressed their understanding for what they were doing.

Many visitors had come to see the special exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci, some saying they had booked hotels and trains to get to Paris for the exhibit. The museum said tickets bought for the day would be fully reimbursed.
