U.S. Drinking Water Contaminated With Dangerous Chemicals

U.S. Drinking Water Contaminated With Dangerous Chemicals The contamination of U.S. drinking water with man-made “forever chemicals” is far worse than previously estimated.

The highest levels of contamination have been found in Miami, Philadelphia and New Orleans.

The chemicals known as PFAS are resistant to breaking down in the environment.

Some of the chemicals have been linked to cancers, liver damage, low birth weight, and other health problems.

Previous estimates from 2018 that 110 million Americans may be contaminated with PFAS, could be far too low.

Of tap water samples taken from 44 sites in 31 states and Washington D.C., all but one had evidence of PFAS.

“It’s nearly impossible to avoid contaminated drinking water from these chemicals,” David Andrews
Senior scientist and co-author of the report.
