An Inexpensive Alternative to A|C Compressor Replacement

In this video I go over an alternative repair to A/C compressor replacement in the event that the A/C compressor is locked up rendering the accessory drive inoperative. The alternative repair is replacing the A/C compressor with what is called an "A/C compressor bypass pulley". A bypass pulley would be needed on certain vehicles that require the presence of a pulley in the place of the compressor in order the the serpentine belt to be routed around the other components of the accessory drive correctly. In some cases a pulley is not needed to bypass the compressor. In these cases a smaller belt can be used to literally by pass the compressor. (I give an example of this in the video.)

Note: If replacing the A/C compressor, you will need to have the a/c system evacuated with special equipment. Also, if you are the one to evacuate the system, you will need to have a refrigerant handling license. You can not just vent the refrigerant into the atmosphere. Venting refrigerant and handling refrigerant incorrectly is against the law....... Fo real.

Also, this is not a how to video. This video is informational. There may be other tasks needed in order to make the bypass pulley work other than just replacing the a/c compressor. (lines may need to be removed or secured out of the way as to not get caught in the accessory drive.) Also, if you plan on replacing the a/c compressor at a later date after you have bypassed it, just know that by that time the inside of the a/c system may have been ruined by moisture. (Albeit, if the compressor has failed in a manner to warrant a bypass pulley the inside is shot any way and either flushing or more parts replacement may be needed.
