I am writing to you today as a resident of Pickering deeply concerned about the direction you are taking with respect to development in this City. My most urgent concern is the proposed 23 storey twin tower development being proposed for Liverpool Road South. Many people, myself included, chose to live in Pickering because of its lakefront, which is accessible to the public - so unlike Toronto's wall of condos on its lakefront. To have learned that the CAO of the Town was in discussions with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission as early as 2016, expressing an interest in a minor variance to allow this kind of high rise development was both shocking and disappointing. The first discussions should have been held with the residents of Pickering, especially those most directly affected, before pursuing any discussions of this nature. I am asking that you immediately withdraw any support for this development and provide alternative options to ensure that this area continues to be accessible to the people of Pickering rather than developed for high rises.
