First rib misalignment is prevalent in today's world, unfortunately. When 1st rib is misaligned under both shoulders the horse will present a short neck and even 'Ewe Necked' posture which is not their true conformation. Neither shoulder will be able to move correctly and this feels like you have on a too-tight shirt and cannot freely move your shoulders to paint the ceiling or garden-something where you need to be able to reach. Well, this is how our foals feel when we work and lunge them. We have been taught that this is a "weakness" and need to work on it more with them which is the exact opposite of the truth. Repetitive lunging actually does more damage int he form of 'compensations' muscles overworking go into spasm and shortens and whatever tendon ligament or bone it is connected to will not be able to more correctly. This is the start of sidebone, ringbone and arthritic hocks needing joint injections. It is much cheaper to start learning how to work on young horses BEFORE THEY GO INTO TRAINING! Once put into training the hind end has to compensate for a front end not able to move freely-putting the Psoas muscles in the Lumbar region into spasm. This then creates the 'Roach back' horse which again is not their true 'conformation' but posture developed from a body not able to move correctly.
OUR HORSES SHOULD BE RIDEABLE THRU THEIR 30'S!

My belief is that both 1st ribs misaligned is the trigger point for starting equine wobblers syndrome and kissing spine as both 1st ribs out teaks C6 and C7 and compresses the nerves around the thoracic outlet
