ARCHITECTS VS. ENGINEERS

ARCHITECTS VS. ENGINEERS Recently CPWD has invited tenders for redevelopment of North Avenue and South Avenue for Members of Parliament’s houses in New Delhi. They want designs with comprehensive architectural and engineering planning. This is unfortunate that while Architects Act suggests that proper architectural competition should be organized for design, construction and supervision of public buildings, the government organizations are themselves violating the Architects Act by inviting bids from architects/consultants. In Council of Architecture, practicing architects have almost negligible representation. Except five IIA representatives all other nominees are Government architects. Because of service rules, Government architects cannot criticize or go against the wrongdoings of other government departments. This is high time that practicing architects should raise their voice like the advocates who are always united against any violations of the advocates’ rights. Bar Council of India Act was also passed by the parliament and Architects Act 1972 was also passed by The Parliament.
